The building
The New Farm has eight storeys, including the glasshouse on the roof. Whether it is the fish farm on the top floor, oyster mushrooms grown in coffee grounds or a shipping container in which lettuce is cultivated under LED lights, each floor is an ecological renewal zone.

Aquaponics on an industrial scale
The pioneers at Urban Farmers have installed an industrial-scale aquaponics system on the roof and sixth floor. The greenhouse on the roof is used to grow tomatoes, aubergines, courgettes, peppers and leafy vegetables.

Fish farm
Fish farm in the clouds
The sixth floor houses a tilapia fish farm. The wastewater from the fish farm is used as fertiliser for the crops growing on the roof. In turn, the plants purify the water, which flows back to the fish tanks.

& LivingLab
In search of new solutions and technologies
The LivingLab is where The New Farm Citizens present their innovations to a wider audience and help give the Netherlands a leading edge in vertical urban farming. While big and small enterprises work together with knowledge institutions on Smart Urban Food Solutions in the LivingLab, there is also a large space for creative sessions.

Vertical Farming
Vertical urban farming in action
The fourth floor offers innovative companies the opportunity to apply vertical urban farming in practice. Haagse Zwam and Rebel Urban Farms are two of the enterprises engaged in small-scale farming on this floor in the south-west wing of the building. The rest of the fourth floor has been broken through to the level above and offers space for a specially equipped cell almost 10-metres high. This is where organisations present their innovations in the LivingLab.
Kookfabriek &
Multifunctional
Space
Kookfabriek and multifunctional space
Kookfabriek is based on the third floor in the south-west wing of the building and has been hosting culinary workshops for groups of up to 140 people for 20 years. The other half of the third floor consists of an inspiring multifunctional space with a 230-seat hall for plenary meetings and several adjoining rooms for break-out sessions and workshops.
Office space and support functions
To ensure the available space for vertical urban farming is used as efficiently as possible, the second floor houses the support functions for the companies on the fourth and fifth floors. This is also where The New Farm's office is located.
Incubator
Incubator for start-ups
The first floor is the hotbed for start-ups and is where the Incubator and the Accelerator are located. The Leafy Green Machine by Horticoop is located just outside the building and comprises a shipping container with slats, LED lights and climate control that can produce up to 80 kg of lettuce a week.Entree,
